Most delayed OEM projects do not fail because the factory “cannot make bags.” They stall on small details that nobody wrote down early enough. If you are preparing a custom waterproof bag order, these eight points will save you weeks.
5L, 10L, 20L, and 30L bags look similar in photos and feel completely different in use. Confirm internal volume and finished dimensions. If your customer base is kayak users, oversized bags can become a complaint. If you sell travel kits, undersized bags get returned.
“Custom logo” is not one process. Screen printing, heat transfer, and other methods behave differently on PVC and TPU. Ask for a print sample on the actual fabric. Also mark placement with measurements from the top seam or side edge. Vague logo notes create vague bulk results.
Phone screens lie. If brand color matters, use Pantone references or physical swatches. For outdoor bags, also ask how the color looks after welding and after folding. Some deep colors look richer on a flat swatch than on a finished roll-top bag.
Buckles, D-rings, and strap adjusters are easy to overlook until a customer says the buckle cracked or the strap slipped. Tell the factory whether you want standard hardware or upgraded parts. If your bags will see saltwater use, mention that up front.
Retail packaging, polybag thickness, barcode stickers, and carton shipping marks should be in the purchase order. Waterproof bags are often sold as sets or kits. If packaging is wrong, the product may still be fine and still unsellable for your channel.
Not every buyer needs a lab report for every shipment. But you should define what “pass” means: water immersion for X minutes, no leakage at seams, strap pull test, and visual AQL. Write it simply. Clear QC language protects both sides.
If you expect repeat orders, ask how the factory records approved samples. Keep one golden sample. Future bulk should match that sample, not a new interpretation of your first email.
Agree on update points: material arrival, printing start, sewing/welding progress, and pre-shipment photos. You do not need daily chatter. You do need checkpoints.
Paid traffic can bring inquiries quickly. Turning those inquiries into repeat OEM orders depends on how clean the first project runs. A smooth first order creates reorders. A messy first order creates silence.
